Welles Crowther made the ultimate sacrifice saving dozens of people in the South Tower floor 78 calling out to all that could hear, "If you can stand, stand now. If you can help someone else, do so." Welles body was found months later surrounded by uniformed personnel from the FDNY and NYPD. We honor him by choosing others before self, and for going past the 78th floor to help others and guide them to the egress.
